Siemens Run 2009 10KM, some Shoryuken and 1 sad news

Wazzup everyone? Didja miss me? :P I was busy la...pai seh. Busy with work and workout. Haven't been running for the past 1 week after Siemens Run. As I ran McDonald run a week before Siemens Run, the route was pretty much the same except for the ending; Instead of turning into Kompleks Pertama, we had to run alittle further till we come across Wisma Cycle And Carriage to make the "U-turn" point.

I felt stronger this time. I manage to maintain pace during all the uphills and side stitch wasn't a problem this time around. I ran slightly faster as I was pacing with my friend, David earlier into the run but his pace was very much faster...so I told him to run first because If I were to follow his pace, I would pancit even faster.

My timing was 01:10:13 for the run. My previous best was 01:11:48 or something...can't recall but that was during Men's Health Run 2008. I won't say its a magical thing to do with the shoe but I guess the McDonald run did do some good as training before Siemens Run.

Now for some words regarding my thoughts on the LunarGlide+ during the run. The shoe feels alot better after more running in it and I could feel the cushioning really well this time. I guess their new technology Dynamic Support System really makes a difference this time as it is said to make the shoe adapt to a runner's feet without compromising performance. Although I mentioned that the shoe could use a little head room for the toes, this doesn't seem to bother me any more during the run.

Photobucket

Did you guys notice the "wires" on the shoe(The silver looking lines)? That is Nike's Flywire Technology which allows Nike to remove unnecessary weight WITHOUT compromising support and stability.

Although I haven't been able to try the LunaRacer, but the Lunarlite cushioning system is fantastic.

Taken from Nike Biz:
LunarLite System
Nike first introduced LunarLite in the summer of 2008 in Beijing as the mid-sole cushioning system in the Nike LunaRacer+ and Nike LunarTrainer+ running shoes. Traditional cushioning systems only absorb energy upon impact. LunarLite has proven to provide superior cushioning and significant energy return. The LunarLite System in the Nike LunarGlide+ creates a trampoline effect as the softer foam core is contained by the firmer foam carrier upon impact.

I'm not trying to exaggerate, but indeed, I felt some sort of bounce feeling upon landing. Hence, feeling all the technology coming into place for the cushioning work. Once again, it ain't a magical shoe or high-end-sophisticated-technology which helps improve your running by tenfold.

Nevertheless, the shoe is amazing for its lightness and size(small)!

Next up, my cam whoring sessions!

So many updates, so little time.

Whoa...a brand new week...and it is already THURSDAY! How time flies when you have a shit load of work to do. A lot of things happened since last week and I hope I don't miss anything out :). Life is pretty much the same. It is going to be an all-in-one update so kick back, relax, and enjoy! :P

First up, I went to the Levi's Wareshouse Sales at Damansara(Atria shopping complex) about 2 weeks ago. It was the third day since it started so I was not expecting much from this visit.

Photobucket
To my surprise...wasn't too crowded.

Photobucket
Nothing much left...ah well

Guess what..............I bought something! Woo hoo! A new pair of jeans!

Photobucket
Sadly, my waistline is still 33"

Photobucket
Great, now I gotta unbutton my shirt AND my jeans.

Apart from getting a new jeans, I had to fixed my TV, thanks to mother nature. I've turned off every electrical appliances(except for the cordless phone and fridge) but still it happened. It was raining very heavily one morning and thunder could be heard almost every few seconds. By the time it reached evening, I wanted to watch some TV and I found out that it was spoiled. What luck ..sigh...more $$$ gone from my wallet for repairs. Called up Philips service center and got my report number for the repair work.

After 3 weeks of TV-less days, it was repaired and brought back to my place to be fixed back to the chasis.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Pretty cool huh? How often do you open up your TV?

On to some running news.....

Remember my short run when I first got my Nike Lunarglide+? Well, I forgot to mention about this

Hello there!

Photobucket
My first pair of running socks finally Rested In Peace. So happened that my socks are from Nike. Note: This is not an advertorial!

Everyone learns from mistakes. When I first started running, I used to run with normal cotton socks which was thick and HOT and would cause blisters during long runs. My friend said it was because cotton-made socks are too thick and keeps the sweat from being wicked away. Soon after, I started using these so called socks made for sports - Tactical socks. Sounds good huh?

Photobucket
I bought 2 new pairs :)

McDonald Olympic Run is set on the 12th of July and my colleague was kind enough to accompany me as well as to guide me on how to get to Wisma OCM(Olympic Council of Malaysia) to collect my race kit. We left TPM around 12.00pm and arrived at Wisma OCM around 12.20pm. There wasn't any long queue but what shocked me was that they have not finished printing the bibs for Mens Open 7KM. What the hell? What is wrong with organisers nowadays? There are AMPLE amount of days(heck even months) before the race kit collection day, how could they give such an answer? Same case for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009. The person in charged told me that they will set up a booth on the race day itself for those who have not collected their bib. I ain't gonna go back there just for the bib so I told him fine, I'll collect it on race day and collected only the t-shirt.

Proceeded for lunch with a nice bowl of laksa at Taman Desa@Old Klang Road :)

Bad/Lousy carbo loading..
tasted quite decent Muahaha

On Saturday(11.07.2009), me and my sayang were at 1 Utama for some shopping. After God-Knows-How-Many-Years, I finally had my chance to eat at Carl's Jr. The reason is...me and my gf seldom have burgers for lunch/tea/dinner. And this happened to be somewhat of a tea time meal :D Plus the McDonalds Run is on the next day so I used carbo-loading as an excuse.

Had to wait for our burgers to arrive

RACE REPORT!

So with all the eating and shopping done. It was time to head home(my gf's place) for an early rest. Since I had no bib number, all I did was checking out the running t-shirt. Yeap, not a running vest but a t-shirt. But don't get me wrong. I like the t-shirt as it was pretty cool.

I slept around 10.30pm as I was thinking, it is only a 7KM run...I should do fine. I set my alarm to wake me up around 5.00am. The alarm went off once and I snoozed my phone twice. By the time I really woke up, it was 6.00am! I took a quick bath, changed and went downstairs to have my breakfast. It was just a quick breakie. 1 small Raisin bun, 1 cup of coffee and 1 Energy Bar(Fruits and Nuts).

So I left my gf's place around 6.30am, and to my horror...my car was low on Fuel...what timing. Sigh. I drove to the nearest petrol station near SS2(BHP) to refuel my car. With that done, I drove faster than usual to Dataran Merdeka. I tried my luck at Bank Negara and around Dataran Merdeka but all the parking spots were taken. I ended up parking at Bkt Aman car park.

To my surprise, I saw some friends whom just parked their car as well; One of my running friend Ija, her husband and her brother. 2 more friends met up with us and we introduced ourselves :) As I was explaining to Ija that I didnt have a bib number yet, she said she has a spare as 1 of her brother isn't running. What luck eh? :D

We were busy pinning our bibs to our t-shirt and applying some spray on heat rub. With that done, it was time to proceed to Dataran Merdeka in...10 Minutes. We chatted while walking...and we also started to slow jog to warm up. It was a pretty decent turn out despite being a 7KM run.

Photobucket
Da route...7KM(Blue Arrow)

I wasn't really aiming for anything in this run. All I wanted to do was to test out the new shoe :) Not an excuse but anyway...the run started pretty punctual. I don't recall if there were any "gun off" but there were alot of cheering going on by all of us - The power of unity :D

So we started off from Dataran Merdeka, the usual place for most running events. Not soon after, I was already greeted by the hills towards Bank Negara. I changed my running style alittle to utilize more of my quads for the push off. There quite a number of runners who were walking at this point. I had to zig zag alittle bit to avoid some people, but nevertheless, the shoe's cushioning was great!

After the long uphill, there was some recovery point for most of us as the ground was flat before we hit Jalan Tunku, another hill to attack. Again, I used my heel for more push off activity and to my surprise, I spotted Ija's husband right after the first water station. He had some side stitch which really slowed him down. I was still doing pretty okay till I ran back to Jalan Mahameru. I had a little side stitch myself. I slowed down my pace and walk once in awhile to ease the pain.

The discomfort was soon gone when I was running along Jalan Parlimen. My cruise mode was activated as it was relatively flat all the way till Dataran Merdeka. The shoe was really doing me good as I feel the lightness of the shoe coming into play. Upon passing Padang Merbok, I spotted a young boy, probably 4 - 6 years old, also participating in the run...really super duper cute. He was walking for awhile before hunching forward with his hands on his knees gasping for air while his sister and mum were a little ahead of him and looking back towards him. Dang, if only I had my camera. :D

Moving along, I continued my steady pace, passed the traffic lights at the intersection and I was next to Dataran Merdeka. I knew my timing won't be good enough for a medal(only 100 freaking medals =.= Why can't they give 200 instead :p ) but I wanted to try my luck. I started increasing my pace to overtake runners in my category. I ran pretty fast for the last 150meters(probably) before crossing the finishing line(and collecting the cert at the same time). 45mins 13 seconds. Not a good timing but heck, it was fun knowing that I could still attack the hills non-stop. Whatmore, its with the new Lunarglide+ :)

Photobucket
Thanks to Tey and Victor for the photo.

With this being the first event for the shoe, I find the shoe to be comfortable although a lil' tight for my taste. The headroom for the toes could be improved because there were certain point where my nail would get sort of stuck when it hits the top of the shoe...oh and by the way, my toe nails were short as I always make sure I don't end up with broken or black toe nail.

Remember I said I wore the shoe to office to help loosen the shoe up? Most of my friend said the shoe was nice, beautiful and cool but honestly, I find the colour to be too striking.

Photobucket
Get the picture?

So there you have it folks. My first review of the LunarGlide+. Hope it's good enough to give you a quick view of what the shoe is like.

Pro:

  • Lightweight
  • Well Ventilated for the feet
  • Easy to spot yourself in pictures because of its unique colour combination(Nothing technical involved but still, a find it a plus HAHA)
Cons:
  • The shoe fits just nice but could use a little more space for the toes. It also feels abit tight at the top of the feet near where you would tie your shoe lace. I've tried loosening the shoe laces but it still felt a lil' tight. (I'm using 2E)
  • The shoe doesn't mention Width size?
Photobucket

  • The colour orange is kinda bright. But that is just my personal taste anyway.
*****
On a side note, my blog's THEME has nothing to do with LunarGlide+'s colours. It just so happened to be the same black and orange theme.

First short review of my new ride

HELLO HELLO~~!!! Sorry for the late update on the shoe. I took it for a short run on Monday. I wore the shoe to office. Probably not the right thing to do but I thought it will help loosen up abit so that it doesn't feel too stiff.

Its my first time reviewing a shoe so I hope it will help most of you peeps out there! Because like you, I'm an ordinary runner :)

06.07.2009 - Monday

So I got home from work around 6.30pm, washed my face a little to freshen up before I changed into my running clothes and socks(of course). Sadly, it was too sunny to run outside, so I decided to rest a little longer till 7.00pm+. I hit the road around 7.10pm with a slow jog to warm up my body. First few steps of running was like whoa....I could feel the cushioning of the forefeet! I'm not kidding. May be its still new but as I landed my forefeet, I felt the cushioning of layers.

Photobucket
Did u notice the layers? black, yellow and orange?

I immediately tested the heel by changing my landing style to heel striker. Feels good as well. I guess that is why the heel are like designed like layers of spring

Photobucket

Apart from all that, the shoe is pretty light! I feel comfortable running in this new pair of shoe although I haven't used it long enough to let it "burn in" yet. Probably it doesn't require a long period for that but still never...never do long distance running with a new pair of shoe. This applies to ANY brand of running shoe in my humble opinion.

That is all for now. Shall update upon longer usages of the shoe. Take care everyone!

-My back is having sores so bad till I can't lift my arms above my shoulder/head. HAHA I did my back workout yesterday...jialat

Screwed up Page Counter

WTF , when I checked my page counter stats, its pointing to a wrong page. I have just corrected it. Sigh ...now all my stat histories are gone. Ah well, time for a fresh start but I'm keeping the number of HITS as it is previously.

I will update my blog tomorrow or something. Had a busy morning but a satisfying one. I treated my gf and her family dim sum for breakfast :D. After breakfast, we went to Atria to check out the Levi's warehouse sales or some shit. I bought a Levi's 501 Jeans - Straight cut. Nowadays, they don't use zippers for men's jeans. They are using button =.=. After that, we went home and I vacuumed my own car(Honda City) and my gf's car(Vios). I washed both cars...hers and mine.

I want to rest and eat for now. I got RCIA to attend later. See ya!

Nike LunarGlide+

Alright folks, this was the good news I was talking about. I got a call on Wednesday (01.07.2009) regarding the Nike running campaign which was supposed to start in January. It was postponed then but it is back on NOW. I was asked for my shoe size so I told the lady, 8.5 US and 2E for width. I received another call on that day to be told the location for the shoe collection. Amazing :D I didn't expect it to be so soon.

I was lucky enough to be selected by Nike to review 1 of Nike's latest product; the new Nike Lunarglide+. I didn't pay for it :) It was courtesy of Nike Sales (M). So a BIG shout out to them. I collected my shoe after work on Thursday at Nike Sales (M) office at The Curve(But I actually parked at IKEA).

Coincidentally, the guy that I'm suppose to meet up to collect my shoe is called Andrew(Tan) as well. The office is at level 2, and if you're trying to look for it, you would have to walk into Living Quarters.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Once there, I collected my shoe, tried it on and chatted with him regarding the shoe. He did receive a few feedbacks from online or something but lets see how it goes for me. All I was told is to give my honest feedback through my blog. Simple enough, I thanked him and made my way to McDonalds outside of IKEA to meet up with my friend, Frank, to collect the registration for the McDonalds Olympic Run next week.

Traffic to the Curve was fine but the traffic condition to get back to Taman Mayang Jaya was crazy; I took nearly 45mins to get to my gf's place. Nevertheless, I was really excited to get back home quickly and start checking out the Lunarglide+.

Most of my friends know that I have been using New Balance all these while for my runs and honestly, this would be my FIRST Nike running shoe in my running history. Excited as I am, here are some pictures of the shoe.
