KOTR!!!!

Finally, the run that I was preparing for...Adidas King Of The Road is over. How did I do? Not that great and not that bad(For me lah...not for all you fast runners out there =P ) I took 1Hour 12mins to finish 10KM. It was hilly but i felt it wasn't as bad as Siemens Run. I struggled after 40mins into the run. I guess I really have to train my long distance running for endurance before I suffer during my first half marathon at Singapore in December. My next target is to complete 10KM within 1Hour or at least...less than 1hour 12mins for Mizuno Wave Run in October.

At least it has 500medals for Men's Open 10KM category. I won't say I will definitely get a medal but I might stand a chance.
Anyway, been training my runs before KOTR. My meals before race day? Not sure it can be considered as "carbo loading" as runners calls it. BUT...I did have a good meal on Friday. It was my project team dinner ( Thank you Xerox :) ). The dinner was at Mandarin Oriental Hotel near KLCC - Biba's Cafe. Took me 1 hour 20mins just to get there from TPM $#$$@#$@$ traffic jam.

Dinner was buffet style and the food was pretty much standard. You have rice, noodles, meat, a sushi section and er..middle east? Mamak? anyway, they have roti naan tandori...kebab..you get the picture.

As for Saturday, went out with my sayang to catch a movie at 1 Utama. First stop, a light snack at Waffle World before the show(Mummy 3). After so many years, it was our first time eating at Waffle World ( LOL ). Browsing through the menu, we were spoilt for choices. The waffles looks and smells so good. Price was reasonable i guess. Rm6.90 for our pick(Banana).

Service was pretty quick but then again, the place wasn't packed at the time.

I rather eat this than Big Apple's donuts

One thing I gotta say is, GSC is still my favourite cinema. The difference between GSC and TGV is just so damn obvious. Once again, I didn't take any pictures while in the cinema except for 1 lousy shot...just to test my K800i ( T.T )

Firstly, its newer than TGV at 1 Utama but that is beside the point since. The seats are VERY comfortable. Ample amount of space for your body and...the leg room that you get. The movie we watched was The Mummy 3: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor. Verdict? Nothing to boast about and it is not a bad show. I won't say it's boring but it just doesn't have that WoW factor to leave you amazed after the show(let's say I'm comparing my experience after watching The Dark Knight). Its a forgettable movie. Although the run time is about 2 hours, it certainly felt like a short movie.

Lunch? Secret Recipe! More carbo loading!

Me and my sayang had the same dish :) Grilled Black pepper chicken

On to the run! Adidas King Of The Road

Photobucket

It was held in NPE last year however it has been changed for this year. God knows why but for 2008, it is held at Dataran Shah Alam. Anyway, many have been telling me that the run ain't gonna be nice, smelly air, hilly route....etc etc.

My gear? New Balance Running shorts, newly bought Renoma X-Sport underwear, Nike sportsocks, Ipod Nano 2GB, Nike Armband.

The new stuff I got for my running was this BLUE new balance pants and Renoma X-Sport underwear. A HUGE DIFFERENCE for the underwear section. Sure you can use normal underwear but Renoma's X-sport ones are just fantastic. I didnt feel any wetness from all my sweating after my runs which I usually get from a normal underwear(material used is cotton? ). Anyway, no harm getting an underwear which has more "ventilation" with quick dry features right? LOL Anyway, 1 box of Renoma X-sport costs RM29.90 comes with 2 pairs. The ones I chose were black and the other was light grey. Actually, I wore the light grey one and NOT the one shown in the picture.

I left my house around 4.50am to Eugene's place at Kota Kemuning. He will be running the 22.7KM while I'm just doing 10KM. Arrived at his place around 5.10am, pretty easy as I've been to Kota Kemuning afew times as one of my cousin stays there(forgot the taman's name).

We decided to drive seperately as 22.7KM runners will be finishing later. BUT before we left for Shah Alam, I had to drop by McDonalds opposite his condo to ease myself LOL. Thank God for 24 Hours McDonalds :D

Arrived at Dataran Shah Alam around 5.50am. I turned off my handphone and kept it in the glove compartment. How do we report for the race? Boxes were set up according to category, we simply had to just leave our reporting card there.

While waiting for the race to start, Eugene and I were approached by 2 chicks...leng lui...whatever you wanna call them. They were promoting some Adidas products; Anti Perspirant for the leg and some anti odour for the shoe. We got our free stamp on our bibs for the free gift redeption after the run at the Adidas Booth. I forgot to collect mine while Eugene took his after the run. dang..

Marvin spotted me before the run and introduced me to his friend, Charles. I manage to see Frank just before he had to move into the starting position. I wished him good luck as he is doing 22.7KM with Eugene. He finished in 2 Hours! Congrats man! You can read his report over HERE.

Anyway here is the route for all the categories.

10KM route was pretty hilly.

Started off around 7.15am. BANG! Off we go. I kept my pace most of the time but I struggled after 40mins into the run. I guess I really need to train more long distance running. Side stitch came towards the 7KM mark. I had to walk to ease the pain and run whenever I can.

There were 1 sponge and 2 water stations for the 10KM and the drinks were 100plus. Phew...at least not just plain water. And nope, didnt stop at the sponge station. The run was pretty hilly but not that steep in my opinion. I think my pace was alittle too fast for my body to handle....which caused the side stitch ( according to Eugene after the run)

Overall, I finished in 1Hour 12mins. Same time as the BHP Orange Run. Honestly, I thought my timings were gonna be bad....but so far its the same. At least I know where my standard lies. My new target will be the Mizuno Wave Run on 19th of October 2008. With 500 Medals up for grab, I wanna set my target. As I said earlier, my long distance training will start off this Saturday - 16.08.2008. I will take this KOTR as part of training for long distance. Nothing is wasted! No pain, no gain.

I met up with Marvin and Charles after the run. Marvin had his handphone camera with him so he helped us to snap this picture. :D Thanks alot Marvin. Once again, let the cam whoring begin!

HeZ da man!

His Medal, My Cert LOL

And, guess what, after the run...I also saw my gf's younger cousins and aunty. What a coincidence. 1 of them is memang a runner. She finished 8th for Women's 10KM category and got a prize money of RM100. I chatted with them for awhile before I spotted Eugene and his friend.

Me and Eugene went to some nearby hawker shop for breakfast. He gave me alot of tips for running and I felt really motivated to improve my long distance running.

Once again, I would like to thank Eugene for helping me so much during this run; bib collection day and guiding me to Shah Alam for the run.

Signing off! Ciaoz
