Okay...okay seriously, to make things less complicated. I'll start off with the MOST recent event, which is the Men's Health Run 2008 - 10KM held yesterday. I wasn't suppose to go for this event as I did not manage to register before they have reached the registration limit(2000 for Men's Open Category - 10KM). Thanks to Andrew Chang for the running ticket. Frank asked me if I would like to run for this event as Andrew(Chang) couldn't make it for the event and I said I will go for it.
I really didn't train specifically for this run but ever since Adidas King Of The Road afew weeks back (10.08.2008), I did train my endurance by doing more longer distance running. My running sessions were from 20mins and I manage to extend each run to 35mins or so. I'm not paying so much attention on my timings just yet. What is the point of running fast when you can't do distance? I guess it goes hand in hand but I gotta train properly. Anyway, I performed better during the Men's Health Run. Thanks to Frank and Eugene for all their guidance.
God, this is like going to be some report writting back in college. But anyway, I met up with Frank on Saturday morning around 11.30am at SS2 BHP petrol station(1 of the easiest landmark to meet up at SS2 mah) to collect my Men's Health Running vest as well as paying him for running registration and timning chip deposit(refundable) for Mizuno Wave Run later in October.
Once done, we(me, my gf and mum) headed over to my sister's condo to check out the place as all of the renovation work is finally complete. However, I was too busy checking out stuff till I didnt take any pictures of the place EXCEPT for some pictures from LAST weekend where me and my bother in law were painting the wet kitchen area.
***Begin of off-topic***
These pictures were taken last weekend - 16.08.2008. Like I said...I was busy...couldn't update my blog. Haha excuses.
Okay did I lose you guys? Anyway, after going to the condo, me and gf left for 1 Utama for lunch. Since me and gf missed eating the Curry Udon at Genki Sushi, we decided to give Sushi King a try. I wonder what happened to Genki Sushi as they seem to be doing well. Didn't expect them to "move out" or close down.
California Maki: Crabstick, egg, cucumber, fish roe.
Chawanmushi: Japanese egg custard
Chawanmushi: Japanese egg custard. Really nice and warm. It has mushrooms and crabsticks but yea, I didn't take picture of it but I'm sure you get the picture.
Chuka Iidako: Seasoned baby octopus
Unagi something..crap. I forgot the name for this. Some unagi fair going on.
Tori Teriyaki Don: Steamed rice served with teriyaki chicken, sliced egg sheets & sesame seeds
Saba: Japanese Noodles with mackeral. There are 2 types of noodles to choose from; soba and udon.
Golden ball: Deep fried egg & shreeded crabsticks mayannaise. I wasn't full even after eating all those earlier. I wanted to try this after looking at the menu for 1 last time haha.
Egg!
Have you seen this?
Nasi Lemak With Chicken Rendang. The rice is very fragrant as they used not just coconut but PANDAN as well. If you look carefully, the rice is slightly green in color. The chicken rendang was nice and tender and not some re-fried crap like Kluang Station. Oh and one more thing...the ikan bilis is VERY salty ahaha.
My gf had Thai Mee Siam with Honey Chicken. The mee siam was quite tasty as it has that sourness that you will get from most "thai" dishes but the balance of it was just right. The honey chicken was good too. Again, it wasn't rock hard like the ones at KLUANG STATION(I fucking hate Kluang Station because they served me that last time. ppfft Re-fried fried chicken for my Ayam Masak Merah).
The damage? Is it reasonable? To me, the food was very satisfying - Taste wise :) Guys, trust me, pay a visit to Nyonya Colors at 1 Utama old wing at level 1.
After all that I went home pretty late when I'm suppose to be sleeping earlier for my run. I slept around 10pm on Saturday although my plan was to be home by 8.30pm and to sleep by 9.30pm or earlier but I guess I miss my sayang too much :) .

Potato Inari: Sweet bean curd, potato salad & fish roe. Although the potato salad is cold, it tastes really nice along side with the crunchiness from the cucumber. Oh they have rice at the bottom too even though you can't see it in the picture.

After a bite :D. It was really nice and crispy! I guess I was lucky to pick it up as they have just prepared it.
Was that enough carbo loading? Haha Next up... DINNER At Nyonya Colors at Level 1 @ 1 Utama.Have you seen this?

The Route :) Familiar? Almost the same as Siemen's run back in July
As usual, I woke up at 4.00am for most of my runs. Showered and had my breakfast at 4.30am. I had 1 sandwich (Wholemeal bread and kaya) and a cup of Oligo chocolate coco drink. It was WAY too early because by the time I finished breakfast, it was merely 4.50am. I went back upstairs to my room and played 2 games of war craft LOL. Don't ask.
I left my house to Lake Garden at 5.20am....just a slow drive towards Lake Garden. I arrived at the Bukit Aman carpark which Frank adviced me to park around 5.50am. Not long after parking, I spotted Frank....and William who was still sleeping in the car haha. Chatted with Frank while waiting for my buddy Ivan. Frank's friend, Keat Seong spotted us and came to greet us and to my surprise...he knows Ivan as both of them works at Accenture. What a small world. Soon after Keat Seong left, Andy was the next to show up :D and yeah, I've brought for him along his long awaited Coke from Indonesia.
Although I've eased myself before leaving the house, the Bukit Aman area was so damn cold that I had to use the washroom urgently. Even Frank and William had to make some business before the run :) . But after waiting till 6.35am, the indian lady who is incharge of the public toilet finally arrived to open the toilet doors! phew.
Frank, William and I made our way to Lake Garden....we did a slow jog to warm up for the run. While doing so, I heard an aunty saying "Wah, so fast running edi?". LOL kinda funny. But anyway, feel alot better as my body was warmed up and I feel really pumped up for the run.
Meet up with afew more of Frank's friends(all teh pro runnerz) and took a quick shot before the run.
From L-R: Lim(Runwithme), Andy , Frank, William, ME and Loke ( Updated 26.08.2008. Got his name from Frank)
I'm running without my Ipod Nano this time. It's not that its affecting my running but I want to know how its like to listen to your surroundings as you run and how hard you're breathing. I must say, its kinda like a breath of fresh air haha. All the panting and foot steps makes you want to go faster to avoid being overtaken but I guess its also a good way of training your pace?
The race started pretty late and the sun was already rising. As soon as the gun went off, everyone was pumped up. One thing though, the running path was narrow most of the time while we were still in Lake Garden. According to Frank, the loop that we ran in the park was 2.3KM. Although being overtaken by ALOT of runners and I do mean ALOT, I tried to maintain my pace as I'm taking this run as part of my training - To run all the way if possible. I guess it was all mental. I kept telling myself, its only 10KM...you can do it, maintain pace.
As we we exited Lake Garden, I ran along Jalan Parlimen before turning off into Padang Merbuk. It was already quite sunny but not that hot yet. As soon as I entered Padang Merbuk area, the uphill running begins as I am entering Bukit Tunku. I shorten my stride and maintained my running pace to keep my stamina going. The first water station was somewhere around this area and they were serving mineral water but whatever. I took a few sips while walking before throwing the rest of the cup away.
Actually, although it was hilly, I felt pretty comfortable and could maintain rhythm throughout the hills. To my surprise, my friend since college days, Karoline spotted me as she was running pass me from the opposite direction. She was doing her usual casual runs and not part of the Shape run.
I was running along side with these 2 girls and 1 bald guy(VERY FIT) and I wonder how they could actually chat while running? haha. One of the girl said "Aiya this run is no problem for this guy la....he is a triathlete man...this is nothing for him". I was like damn...no wonder he made the run look so easy. Running side and backward to chat with his friends. BUT I like the motivation he is giving.
"Come on, just afew more kilometers" he said. With this I pushed myself to run all the way although my mind is telling me to stop and walk.
After exiting Bukit Tunku, I was on Lebuhraya Mahameru where the sun was really getting too bright and I was still running along side with those 2 girls and that bald guy. After passing the National Monument, my legs were seriously begging to stop but I instead of stopping, I slowed down alittle bit. Just about 100 meters before the junction to turn into Lake Garden, I crossed the road by walking. Then the bald guy was talking to his friend again. "Hey XXXX don't walk, you can run. Just alittle further. Don't walk la..no glory. Come on you can do it".
Believe it or not, it's not because of pride but I felt motivated to run to the finishing line. That is why as soon as I turn right into junction that leads to Lake Garden, I maintain pace and ran all the way towards the finishing line.
I crossed the finishing line clocking at 1hour 11mins and 38seconds. I was happy as I did well compared to Adidas King Of The Road. I RAN 98% of the entire journey! I know I'm slow but heck, I know I've improved in one way or another. I improved by....22seconds? But guess what, according to Frank's friend's GPS, actual distance was 10.38KM which made me even happier. Seriously, NO PAIN, NO GAIN. Learn that folks :)
After collecting my 1901 hotdog and orange drink, I spotted Lim. I continued walking around trying to look for anyone that I know, I saw Frank and Stanley. Congratulations to Frank who got position number 57 and of course, a medal(only 75 medals for Men's Open category).
I queued up to collect my goodie bag and headed back to the carpark with Frank and William. We took a quick picture before leaving for breakfast :)
What's for breakfast? I introduced them to my favourite roast pork noodle stall at Taman Megah.
Oh wait...what about the goodie bag?
I couldn't choose the color. Only black and red was available. I was handed the red version
Pardon my hairy leg

Not bad lah...ada botol air juga.
I gotta say, this run was very satisfying to me as I felt like I've improved alittle on stamina. I'm even more motivated to continue my endurance training. I don't know if I should aim for a medal for Mizuno Wave Run. Frank said it is going to be tougher than this Men's Health Run. At least it will be something to look forward to.
Wish me luck :)
